Antony Gormley

Antony Gormley is another amazing artist who deals mainly with sculptures of the human form (usually a cast of his own body) and the relation of our physical bodies and the space it both inhabits and effects. His work "Another Place" pictured here is a great example of how a very talented artist like Gormley uses space to great effect. Erected on Crosby beach in England it consists of cast iron figures which face out to sea, spread over a 2 mile stretch of the beach between Waterloo and Blundellsands. Each figure is nearly 6 feet 2½ inches and the figures go nearly 1 mile out to sea. To me this work deals with the inner space of a want to travel the need to know what’s just over the horizon and the outer space showing just how great the physical distance is to these wants and needs.
