Looking at imprisonment has led me to look at how tattooing is used within prison society as a means of personal expression, individualism, identification and a sense of freedom....marking the physical body as an act of defiance and a symbol that your body may be contained but your mind is free.Many prisoners also use tattooing as an act of coming to terms with the guilt of the crime that placed them in prison in the first place. I think this might be a good line of investigation into how a person could use the space on his or her own body as an area of deep personal statement...
